
Tanimu Ahmed, a citizen of Nigeria suffered from mucormycosis disease and had come to Mumbai for treatment after being rejected by doctors in his home country and also Turkey.
Due to Mucormycosis, Ahmed was unable to lead a normal life. Medical practitioners in Nigeria were not able to treat and he was immobile for approximately eight-nine months. Ahmed visited a few other doctors and surgeons in Nigeria and Turkey, but they were unwilling to take up his case due to complications.
On advice of Nigerian doctors, he travelled to India and consulted to Dr Vinod Vij. Dr Vinod Vij, a Cosmetic Surgeon, Fortis, Vashi said, “We carefully studied Ahmed’s condition and devised a plan to treat his condition. His condition was unusual and very rare. We performed micro flap reconstruction surgery of orbit and palate and nasal cavity on April 8. Ahmed responded very well and was discharge within 10 days. We could see the recovery within 15-20 days but it took three months for him to get completely normal. Ahmed says, “For three years my eye ball was not looking proper, I had difficulty in chewing food. I was in a very bad state of mind too. I made a good decision to travel India for treatment. I am glad that I met Dr Vij and his team who has made my life better and easy.”
Mucormycosis
A medical condition causing fungus attack on face, cavity, and eyes. It is life threatening from which patient gets local coagulation or clotting of the blood in a part of the circulatory system.Previously called zygomycosis, it is a serious but rare fungal infection. Mucormycosis mainly affects people with weakened immune systems and can occur in nearly any part of the body. It most commonly affects the sinuses or the lungs after inhaling fungal spores from the air, or the skin after the fungus enters the skin through a cut, scrape, burn, or other type of skin trauma.
