Rohit Pramar gets chatting to Heavy Petting host Seema Rahmani about her new film and sharing a phone kiss
From Sins to Loins of Punjab Presents, Seema Rahmani has done a variety of roles. One of most popular names in the indie film industry, Seema is back with a new movie called Good Night, Good Morning (GNGM). We talk to her to find out about her new film and lots more.
Tell us about GNGM.
GNGM is a film about strength in commitment, defence mechanisms and the instinctual drive for love. Opposing perspectives reveal themselves in the midst of flirtation, banter, confessions and debates between two strangers on their phones.
GNGM is based on a phone conversation. Do you think phones have become a girl’s best friend?
Technology can’t be anyone’s best friend. You need love, understanding and compassion for a best friend.
Are there any intimate scenes that happen during the film?
There are a couple of quick kisses, a couple of hugs and a phone kiss. But, there are other intimate moments where we share close thoughts on the phone.
You have lived in the US and India both. Do you think people in US are more open-minded about nudity?
In the States no one would bat an eyelid if a naked person walked down the street (laughs). As for nudity in films, it’s not used for excitement purposes; it’s just a natural slice of life moment. Audiences either flow with it gracefully, or get entertained.
You also host a show called Heavy Petting. Are you an animal lover?
That’s like asking if a fish can swim. (Laughs) Yes, I love all of God’s creatures.
Which actor/actress would you like to work with?
There are several, so naming just one won’t cut it. And naming all would be difficult. I have shared screen time with a couple of actors I respect tremendously, such as Pankaj Kapoor, and I loved it. Ranbir Kapoor too works beautifully into his role.
Any directors you’d like to work with?
Abhinay Deo (Delhi Belly), Abhishek Chaubey (Ishq Kiya), R. Balki (Cheeni Kum, Paa), Nagesh Kukunoor (Iqbal), Reema Kagti (Honeymoon Travels), Rajkumar Hirani (Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.). Goodness there really are quite a few.
