Would you ever consider gifting someone a pair of diamond earrings? With Radiant Bay, you won’t think it’s such an expensive proposition anymore! Rhea Dhanbhoora & Yamini Walia talk to Namrata Kothari about her new brand

Can you picture buying a pair of diamond earrings for as little as Rs 4,000? No, we’re not talking about cubic zircon, or American diamond varieties. We’re talking about real diamonds, complete with grading and certificates of authenticity. Namrata Kothari’s newly launched jewellery portal, Radiant Bay aims to give women exactly what we’ve always wanted — affordable diamonds! With prices starting from as low as `1,800, you can treat yourself to a range of well-designed earrings, rings, bracelets and pendants. Take a look at what Namrata tells us about her brand, and why she was inspired to start it.

What inspired you to start Radiant Bay?
I found the element of wearability lacking in the diamond jewellery that is available in India, both online and offline. The collections were simply not wide enough. Once I identified this gap, I realised that I had a opportunity here. I began to search for a manufacturing partner who would have both experience and reputation on their side. Once I met Suashish Jewellery, a company with over 20 years of experience and a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Mumbai, there was no going back.

Why did you pick the name Radiant Bay?
The word Radiant comes from the inherent inner shine of precious stones and metals such as diamonds and gold. The ocean’s depth and timelessness is similar to a diamond, and the word “Bay” signifies this for me.

The seahorse, a beautiful, unique water creature, was an apt brand mark for Radiant Bay. The features of a seahorse symbolise our passion for diamonds and diamond jewellery.

What kind of buyers are you catering to through  Radiant Bay?
We’re catering to women who sparkle, both on the inside and outside — women who are decision makers, whether it’s at work or at the home front. These women are confident and love to add that pizzazz to their look.

What is the USP of your brand?
We feature the largest collection of wearable real diamond jewellery that is priced under `1lakh. We are able to give our customers great pieces due to our manufacturing partnership with Suashish Jewellery, which enables us to pass on any cost savings to our customers.

Tell us a little bit about the collection that is available on Radiant Bay?
Radiant Bay’s current collection features diamond earrings, rings, bracelets and pendants. Most of our designs are available in both gold and silver. If you’re choosing gold, you can pick from 9-18 karat pieces, and also opt for either white, yellow or rose gold. The products are designed with versatility and affordability in mind. We want these products to add a sparkle to your day. Priced between `1,800 and `1lakh, the Radiant Bay collection is sure to embellish every woman’s office, party or casual look with jewels that speak for themselves. Apart from being a great way to reward yourself, the pieces also make good gifts.

You also co-founded Inonit.com. Why did you choose to start your own venture after the success of Inonit?
I decided to co-found Radiant Bay as I found the e-commerce opportunity in this space challenging and exciting. Jewellery is a part of every woman’s wardrobe, and the large market and nascent online traction helped!

What are some essential jewellery items that a woman’s wardrobe should have?
A tennis bracelet, diamond studs, a pair of danglers for a night out, a fun cocktail ring and a classic pendant that can be worn with any outfit.

What are your plans for the future? How do you plan to expand your catalogue?
We plan to add to the catalogue and put in more innovative designs, based on our customer responses. We also plan to add more categories for both men and women.
