If you want to check the authenticity of your valuable diamonds, a visit to Chennai may be worth it. Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers, a Chennai-based heirloom brand, recently held an event for the benefit of jewellery connoisseurs, by setting up the industry’s first synthetic diamond screening device for set jewellery; they claimed that it was the first time in India that such a facility was available.
Such a service is particularly important with the global synthetic diamond market in the Asia Pacific region estimated at $7,496 MN USD and predicted to grow at a CAGR of 7.0% till 2023.
Using SYNTHdetect—a highly sophisticated machine supported by technology from the International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (IIDGR, a subsidiary of De Beers Group), the machine is capable of differentiating natural diamonds from synthetic lab-grown diamonds.
SYNTHdetect has been set up at a strategic point so that anyone who visits the showroom may test and validate their diamond jewellery, as a complimentary gesture from VBJ.
Using the principle of time-resolved photoluminescence, an image is viewed on a high-resolution touch screen to validate whether the diamond is natural or synthetic. SYNTHdetect significantly reduces the need for additional off-site testing, making it the ideal way to verify the legitimacy and trustworthiness of the diamond jewellery, the company says.
Speaking on the occasion, Amarendran Vummidi, Managing Director, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers said: “The gems and jewellery industry is a vast sector with thousands of retailers and merchants, making it difficult to track those cases where undisclosed synthetic lab-grown diamonds get mixed in parcels of natural diamonds. Such instances give room for disreputable dealings to creep into the mainstream gem trade, which taint the jewellery business overall. Confidence is everything in the diamond sector. Our goal is not only to educate our customers so that all doubt and worry will not just reduce; but be eliminated completely!” VBJ is backed by a legacy of more than 118 years in jewellery designing and manufacturing.
