Of hair care at least! We love curly hair, but if you’re looking for a straighter, sleeker style, Jagruti Verma has just the tips you need
Gorgeous curls, textured waves — we love full-bodied hair too, but there are times when we just need that sleek, straight look to work for us. So, how do you get rid of that unforgiving frizz and eliminate all those hair-band dents? Whether your hair is difficult to maintain or straightens out in a jiffy, here are a few tips to help you achieve the straight hair you desire this festive season.
While we are sure that you know that combing or brushing wet hair can lead to breakage, as hair is weaker when it’s wet, if you brush it gently using downward stokes only, you will get straighter hair minus the damage. Simply brush your damp hair a couple of times till it’s dry. However, the important thing to remember here is to be gentle.
NO SCRUNCHIES PLEASE
We understand that pulling your hair into a casual bun when it are semi-dry is convenient, especially if you have long hair. But, doing so will only make your hair to set in curves — not a very favourable situation if you are going for the straight look.
If you are a newbie to hair styling, you might assume that these are only good for curling your hair. However, high rollers can help you straighten your hair too! Just work your magic with a couple of rollers in your hair along with clips, brushing your hair after a couple of minutes. But, stay still during the process.
MASK IT ALL
One of the most common and effective ways to get smooth and straight hair is to use a straightening mask. These will also provide the nourishment your hair needs. You can even whip up a mask at home with some milk, honey and other nourishing ingredients. Else, read the label. Either way, it will be great for your hair!
COOL IT OFF
Use the cold setting on your blow dryer to dry your hair. Although it will take longer than if you used the hot setting, it will help you achieve straight hair. And, you shouldn’t try to speed up the process as it will just make your hair more prone to breakage.
THAT FRIZZ AIN’T COMFY
One of the biggest obstacles in your path to straight hair will be frizziness. Not using heat on your hair will definitely help a little, but here are a few things you can do to reduce the chances of being stuck with frizzy hair. You will realise that most of it is just about keeping your hair hydrated and healthy.
- Conditioning is good: Reduce the number of times you wash your hair with shampoo, but when you shampoo, don’t forget to use the conditioner as well. Make sure your hair is hydrated and healthy.
- Natural drying please: Let your hair dry naturally before using a blow dryer, even if you are using the cold setting. This will help lock in moisture.
- Regular gentle brushing: This will not only make your hair more manageable, it will also help with the circulation of natural oils on the surface of your scalp and ensure blood supply to your roots.
