We’re no strangers to stretch marks, because practically every beauty magazine and wellness guru talks about them. They are shunned by the beauty world, and can prevent you from wearing pretty, short dresses. They may even make you feel self-conscious and uncomfortable about your appearance. You can develop stretch marks whether you’ve gained weight or lost a few pounds, delivered a baby, recently hit puberty or even if you’ve done nothing! To help get rid of these conspicuous lines in the most natural way, we’re bringing you simple home remedies.

All about aloe vera

Aloe vera gel has a plethora of skin and health benefits and the best part is that the plant is easy to grow at home and doesn’t require much care. The presence of collagen in the gel of the aloe vera plant can help tighten your skin and heal scars.

How to use it

  • Take a small amount of aloe vera gel and massage it into your skin.
  • The gel takes a while to be absorbed by the skin so leave it on for a couple of hours before rinsing it off.

Soothing coco butter
There’s a reason why cocoa butter is used in many beauty lotions and balms. It keeps your skin hydrated, makes it smooth to the touch and repairs damaged skin cells.

How to use it

  • Heat half a cup of coco butter and two tablespoons of beeswax until the mixture melts completely.
  • Mix it well and store it in a container.
  • Apply the mixture over your stretch marks and leave it on for at least 40 minutes for best results.

Egg white amino acids
The white of the egg can be used to treat scars or stretch marks because it is rich in amino acids and proteins.

How to use it

  • Put the whites of two eggs in a bowl and whip them gently using a fork.
  • Clean the affected area of your skin with cold water and apply a thick layer of the whipped egg white.
  • Wash it off with cold water when it dries.
  • Do this every day for at least a month for noticeable results.

Lemon juice to the rescue
When life gives you lemons... don’t make lemonade; use them to get rid of stretch marks! The acid content in lemons can make scars and marks less visible.

How to use it

  • Gently massage lemon juice on to the affected area for about 10 minutes.
  • Wash it off with warm water and moisturise your skin after the massage.

The coffee cure

Caffeine is biologically active and it penetrates the skin making it firm and lightening it too.

How to use it

  • Grind coffee beans with warm water to make a smooth paste.
  • Scrub it gently for 10 minutes onto the affected area in a circular motion.

The magic of potatoes
Potatoes don’t just make delicious chips and fries, they contain cooling chemicals that are good for the skin. They can help with growth of new skin cells and repair existing cells too.

How to use it

  • Cut a thin slice of potato and rub it gently over your stretch marks.
  • Rinse the area clean with cold water after half an hour.

Cooling castor oil

Castor oil is used as a remedy for various health, skin and hair issues such as wrinkles, dry skin, dark spots and fine lines. But, it can also help with stretch marks.

How to use it

  • Warm up some castor oil and massage it onto the area in a circular motion, massaging for about ten minutes.
  • Wrap the massaged area in a cotton cloth and use a heating pad on it for 30 minutes to deliver heat to the area.
