If you think the only thing pink denotes is femininity and cute bunnies, think again! Jeet Dalvi & Pearl Mathias tell you why men need to start adding this hue to their wardrobe

Gone are the days when the colour pink was considered the harbinger of femininity or a colour reserved for “pretty boys”. The notion that blue is for boys and pink is for girls has taken us years to move past, but we’re closer than ever to convincing men to pick this flattering colour, without being labelled effeminate or metrosexual. Take a look at how to get it right.

HOW YOU CAN ROCK THIS COLOUR
It may not seem like it, but pink is actually an extremely trendy colour for men. So much so that it can even give you a stylish edge in the fashion world. Those who have been wary of the hue in the past could use these tips, and learn to experiment with it.

Pick one style: Pink is usually chosen for shirts, T-shirts and jackets. But, it is also one of the most popular colours for ties and pocket squares, director of SARTOJIVA, Rohan Gupta tells us. Also, remember that the lapel and sleeve cuffs on an outfit can be subtly enhanced with pink threads.

Complement it: Although pink isn’t the first choice for too many people, it adds a certain freshness to your attire. “A classic, light pink shirt paired with black trousers can make you look very dapper. Suits, especially in light rose or salmon pink, give you an elegant, debonair style,” says Saggar Mehra, creative director at Sunil Mehra. You can also pair a pink shirt with a black or grey coat.

Keep it simple: You may enjoy wearing the shade once you see how good it looks with your clothing and how effortlessly you can pull it off. But, remember that wearing too much of it at one go is a bad idea. When you’re putting your ensemble together, restrict the colour to a single detail.

WHAT YOU CAN BEGIN WITH
If you’re still hesitant about adding this colour to your wardrobe, here are a couple of things that Prem Dewan, retail head of Osl Luxury Collections, suggests that you get started with.

A jacket: Pair the jacket with dark trousers and a light, neutral shirt to balance out the look. It’s better to do away with the tie to avoid too much of a colour clash. Match the pocket square with dark trousers for a more professional look.

A suit: Pulling off a pink suit can be tricky. Pick muted shades of grey, black or white for the shirt and accessories in order to make a bold statement in this full suit.

A tie: If sober is more your style, despite the colours raining in this season, pink can add that extra punch to a subtle look without screaming for attention. Pair it with a matching pocket square and you’re ready to sport the dapper combination.

Radiant accessories: Cufflinks are uber stylish and complement most light coloured shirts, preferably those in softer tones such as white, grey and blue. Your tie and pocket square can reflect the same hue as your cufflinks, while your shoes and belts can match your apparel.
