THE BODY SHOP’S NEW BRITISH ROSE
I’ve never been able to escape the draw of The Body Shop stores. While their standalone, closed-door outlets are easier to walk past, try dragging yourself away from the delicious scents and flavours sneaking up on you as you wander past their mall outlets. It’s almost evil, the open-store format leaving you with very little room to fight temptation. They recently added a new aroma to a delicious mix of already tantalising scents, but when I saw them, I was sure that this would be a collection I could resist. After all, most rose scented products are sickly sweet or remind me of English school-marms and pot-pourri, and I’m not very fond of either. However, the new British Rose range throws up a lot of surprises. And, it’s only fitting that it comes in their 40th anniversary year, reminding you of gardens and hand-picked roses from the English countryside. Since the ingredient is organically grown in Herefordshire, this thought is not far from the truth. And, even better than the packaging is the pretty scent that wafts over the entire range. I decided that it was time for me to try a new body butter, and this was packed with promises of an instant glow and 24-hour hydration. And, while I can’t claim to have been walking around with rosy cheeks and dewy skin as soon as I applied it, a week of use and I’m already hooked to the subtle, soothing scent (which didn’t give me a headache, surprising of rose) and light feel. It’s not sticky, it blends in better than some of their other butters (sorry Shea!) and who knows, maybe in time I will have a rosy glow and petal-soft skin too!
