If you’re always out and about, Purva Indulkar tells you why you should throw a bottle of face mist in your bag for instant hydration
The rain may have let up a bit, but that could mean changes in temperature, which can affect your skin. After a day of appointments, professional assignments and unhealthy snacking, you could find your skin dull and dehydrated. With our busy schedules, heading to the washroom for a quick foundation touch-up or blotting out the oil on your face before a lunch with clients is not always an option. So what do we do to give our face a fragrant, refreshing spin in a few seconds? Use a face mist of course! These tiny bottles are packed with soothing, water-based liquid that will add some moisture to dry skin. Whether you want to hydrate your skin before you apply a new coat of makeup or just spray on a few drops after a sweaty gym session, we’re telling you more about face mists as well as how to make some at home.
What are face mists?
We’ve been seeing makeup artists stash face mists in their cosmetic bags for a quick refresher, or have caught people spritzing these on after a flight to add some life to sagging cheeks. So we recommend face mists whether you spend all day sending out emails or are constantly hopping from one meeting to the next. If you wear makeup, this helps make your look seem more natural and prevents your face from looking powdery or cakey. If you don’t, they will help enhance the natural glow of your skin, giving you a dewy “woke up like this” look. Face mists are a great option when you’re tired and even if you don’t have time to touch up your makeup.
Mist in minutes
Want to hydrate your skin, but would like to try out some homemade options first? We’ve got you covered. Whether you’re just looking to splash some water on your face when you’re sweating profusely or want to spray on an elaborate concoction of essential oils and flower-infusions, you can design your face mist based on your needs. Here are the simplest ones.
Aloe splash Take 3 tbsp of organic aloe gelly, juice of half a lime and ½ cup distilled water. Mix them together in a spray bottle and store it in the fridge for added coolness. Aloe will smoothen out cracks and soothe inflammation caused by heat or break-outs and lime is packed with vitamin C.
Rosewater spritz Use 1 cup of rose petals, 2 cups of boiling water and 5 to 10 drops of sandalwood essential oil. Place the petals in a bowl and pour boiling water over them, cover the bowl and let the petals steep. Over time, they will lose their colour and turn white. Pour the water from the bowl into a spray bottle. Rose water will balance the pH levels of your skin and it also contains antibacterial properties. The sandalwood will help you achieve a glowing complexion.
Cucumber cool Chop up 1 medium sized cucumber, slice up half a medium sized lemon, use 1 organic mint tea bag and ½ cup distilled water. Juice the cucumber and add lemon juice. Steep the mint tea bag in hot water for 5 minutes; wait for the tea to cool, then add the cucumber and lemon juice mixture to it. Pour this in a spray bottle and store it in the fridge. Cucumber is effective in combating dark spots and acne, while the bleaching properties of lemon juice will help even out your complexion, giving you glowing skin.
