Honey, where to?

Thursday, November 03, 2016

So you’ve had your dream wedding — congratulations! Now, it’s time for the most exciting part, the honeymoon! Jagruti Verma helps you out with a few tips to make sure it’s just as dreamy

We’re hoping your wedding celebration was fun, that the ceremony went off without a hitch and no drunken family members created a scene. But, even if they did, now is a good time to forget all about it, because it’s time for your honeymoon! The perfect time for a couple to leave the world behind and cosy up together as they focus on themselves in a romantic destination. Although you should stay away from the big day as a topic, you can totally talk about the glances you stole or the times you held each other’s hand during the ceremony. Here are a few more ideas you can use to make the most of your time together.

Think about when you want to take the trip
Now, that’s a question that will haunt you for a while if you are stuck in a job that won’t let you go on a long holiday. So, if you want to skip the pay cuts, you should probably stick to making the most of the first few long weekends that come your way instead of going all out the minute you tie the knot. Plan short trips outside the city and focus on spending as much quality time as possible with each other. Always try to take the longer route home and plan as many romantic evenings and small surprises for each other as you can. Playing their favourite song on a guitar by the bonfire or cooking delicious meal as a surprise might work too — they are clichés for a reason!

What next?
Of course, don’t use this as an excuse to skip out on the honeymoon altogether — it’s important to get that time alone to unwind and relax — or to get adventurous together! Talk about where you would like to go and start planning, even if it is six months away. Working towards it in advance will give you something to look forward to through all those hectic work days.

How can I make it special?
Don’t worry too much about it. You don’t have to make a conscious effort to creating a superb experience. Simply go with the flow and enjoy the moments as they come your way! Always remember that you are doing this for each other, and not to create stories that you can boast about to your friends. Try to look for happiness in the little things and make sure that you appreciate each other. The stories will follow.

Don’t spend all day indoors
We know that as a newly married couple, this sounds like a tempting prospect. However, it’s a much better idea to interact with other travellers (not too much though), experience new things and explore a city or town together. It will help you bond in new ways that aren’t possible back home. Now that you’re married, you can spend all weekend indoors if you want to anyway! Don’t waste a good trip on it.

Where to?
Your options can range from safaris in the jungle to romantic cruise trips. A lot of it depends on your budget and personal preferences. Don’t spend an amount that you will regret later. It should be just enough for you to make great memories. Make sure that your trip includes a few spots that matter to you as well as to your partner. Try doing things on your bucket list while you are at it, as it will make the experience even more special. At the end of the day, remember that you chose to be together for a reason and no matter what happens and how many special plans come together or fall through, all that matters are your feelings for each other. Let them take control of your honeymoon!
