Festival season is our favourite time of the year! And since we are approaching the exciting season, Pearl Mathias brings you décor and design tips to keep your home festive ready
Call us over-enthusiastic — even though Diwali is almost a month away, we’re already geared up for the festive season. But, before we begin to add some dazzle to our wardrobes, which we can do later, we should spruce up our homes so that they’re ready in time for the festivities. You don’t need to open your coffers and give your home a ceiling-to-floor makeover to liven it up. Instead, we’re bringing you a few simple home décor hacks to make your home much more inviting. We spoke with interior stylist Jasmine Jhaveri of Jasmine Jhaveri Designs for some helpful tips.
Mirror Mirror, On the wall
Mirrors on the wall act as great decorative elements. If you have a large bare wall, put up a gallery wall of mirrors of different shapes and mixed metals. Alternatively, you could use white crown moldings on a grey or mushroom-coloured wall, or champagne gold moldings on a white-textured wall.
If you want to decorate your wall in a lavish way, try suede wallpaper. These types of wallpaper have deep and rich tones and create the feeling of a cocoon-like embrace.
Accent & accentuate
Highlight the neglected walls in your home. Create an accent wall with a fresh coat of bold paint or patterned wallpaper. This can uplift and transform drab corners and highlight niche walls.
Brighten with fairy lights
Fairy or string lights look fancy, no matter where you hang them. Simply hang a few string lights on the wall, which will cast a soft glow on the blank space, creating a dreamy look. This look can also act as a replacement for any kind of light fixture that normally brightens up a wall.
Antique wall plates
Using antiques is a nice way to decorate your home. Antique plates are great when in a showcase, but they work even better for walls. Hang quirky and colourful plates on a blank wall for your guests to admire.
Set up a photo gallery
While not all of us have a flair for photography, the memories we capture are special. Design your own gallery wall with photos of you and your family, or anything you love. Blow some of them up or make a black and white gallery wall of framed photographs and it will stand out, giving your home an artistic feel.
A trending look
Add organic glamour to your walls with unique artisanal objects. Pick natural materials such as wood, stone and cork, along with glints of metallic, contemporary and geometric wallpapers to give the wall a striking look. A juxtaposition of modern furnishings and an eclectic pop of something stylistically interesting is an on-trend look.
Prints and paintings
Create a gallery wall with prints and paintings. This is fairly inexpensive to do and you can have several options that you can rotate to give your walls a new look every so often. Mix and match colours to your heart’s content! Alternatively big, colourful art can add a bit of drama to a plain wall.
