Pooja Salvi visits Bambooo Tree All Day Spaa to experience their services, and walks out completely relaxed and stress-free
You’re probably assuming that the name has been misspelt, but as with so many these days, it’s all about numerology. Faarooq Merchant, the owner of Bambooo Tree All Day Spaa, is a staunch believer in numerology, adding extra alphabets into the name as advised. Even though I’m not usually a spa person, I decided to see if their new offerings are worth checking out. I usually curl up in bed with a book and a cup of tea, and simply read to a deep slumber when I want to relax, but a visit to Bambooo Tree All Day Spaa may be a better idea!
The space
Bambooo Tree All Day Spaa is located in Bandra’s Pali Hill neighbourhood. Tucked away in one of the many back alleys, its a blink-and-you-miss-it sort of place. Once you are inside, you’re greeted by a fresh whiff of cool lemongrass — a popular fragrance. They have a small reception area and Faarooq sits here welcoming you with a warm greeting. You are required to fill in a form, elucidating whether you have any allergies, problem areas you’d like them to address on priority, if you are on your period and so on. As it turns out, Faarooq himself concocts the massage oils, which smell brilliant and have a long-lasting effect. Once you are done with the formalities, you are guided to a much larger space with other rooms adjoining it. The bigger room is where they carry out manicures and pedicures to suit any and every appointment. At the end of the room, they have a big fish tank for their Fish Pedicure and a small veranda overlooking the street.
The service
I picked a full-body bamboo massage (Rs 4,500), which involves a great oil massage, followed by hot bamboo rubs. I don’t usually go to spas, because I don’t have much time on my hands (to be fair, they also cost a lot of money); so I don’t have much to compare this with. However, this was by far the best I have felt in my limited experience. The space is relaxing, and with soothing music throughout the 70 minutes, you will drift in and out of tranquillity. Your tired and sore body welcomes the hot oil and the masseuse works your pressure points in just the right manner. Although the bamboo feels hot at first, within a few seconds, there is nothing you would want more than just the bamboo rub.
After a soothing experience here, I was asked if I wanted to take a shower and then proceed to the fish pedicure (Rs 975). The fish pedicure rose to prominence several years ago and since then has been quite a favourite for many people. At first, it is ticklish and then it feels strangely good. Either way, my feet were soft and clean — the complete opposite of my sorry attempts at a DIY home pedicure.
