When your beer goes flat, you pour it down the drain, right? But, Sara Shah says you can actually use it, and not to drink!
1 Reduce dark spots
Lighten the blemishes on your face by mixing ½ tsp flat beer, one egg white and a drop of almond extract. Use this facemask regularly and you will notice your dark spots reducing in weeks.
2 Banish Acne
Minimise acne breakouts by mixing 1 tbsp of flat beer with some yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice and an egg white. This controls sebum production while the beer’s alcohol content kills acne-causing bacteria on your face.
3 Brighter complexion
Add a few drops of flat beer to two mashed strawberries. Apply it on to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off. Follow up with a toner and moisturiser for a healthy, radiant complexion.
4 Leave-in conditioner
If you’re not a fan of drenching your hair in beer, boil your flat beer for at least 10 minutes, cool it down and then pour it in a spray bottle. You can use this spray as a leave-in conditioner!
5 Lustrous hair
Beer is known for its conditioning properties and works as an excellent hair conditioner when used after shampooing. Just make sure that you don’t substitute it for your shampoo as it does not have any cleansing properties.
6 Have a bubblebath!
Remember when we said that flat beer could soften dead and tired skin? Well, you can soak your whole body in this magical solution by adding a cup or two into your bathwater.
7 Hair tonic
Does your hair grow at a snail’s pace? Just mash an avocado, add a few spoonfuls of flat beer along with some drops of rosemary or thyme oil and apply it onto your hair. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes before washing it off. Do this once a week and watch your hair grow!
8 Treat dandruff
Rinse your hair with a cup of flat beer to treat it for dandruff. Follow this routine twice or three times a week. The anti-dandruff properties in beer can be attributed to its yeast and vitamin B, which is found in several anti-dandruff shampoos.
9 Rejuvenate your feet
The yeast in beer is excellent for softening tough dead skin and the alcohol in it acts as an antiseptic. Pour a few capfuls in a bucket of warm water to soak your feet in. You now have a fun pedicure treatment at home!
10 Tame your locks
Along with conditioning your hair, flat beer is also a great substitute for hair products. Dip your fingers in the beer and slick back any flyaway hairs. You can also use it to tame your unruly eyebrows in a pinch.
