Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Suchitra Surve Director, Growth Centre, is a Post Graduate in Business Administration and has specialised in HR, and also holds a Post Graduation Diploma in Career Counselling

I want to know what are the possible ways of joining biotechnology. This year I am in X and wish to make a career in the same. Can I do it at undergraduate level or should I do it after graduation?
— Srikala Joshi

To join the field of biotechnology, one should have a background of science, i.e., biology, chemistry, physics or agriculture. An engineering background would also enable a career in this field. Some universities offer the B. Sc in biotechnology which one can join after class 12. At the post graduate level, one can do M. Sc, M. Tech, M. Sc (Agri) biotechnology or M. Sc (Animal biotechnology) and so on. Since the study routes are different the list of colleges can be taken after deciding the route to become a biotechnologist.

I am in TYBCOM and I will have to work after my studies, but I am interested in Finance and management  Pls suggest me any part time/correspondence Diploma to gain more knowledge & expertise.
— Amey

Since you are clear that you will be working after Graduation, then a 2 – 3 years of work experience would enable you pursue courses at the Masters level. You can either opt for:
n    2-year M.Com [immediately after graduation]
n    3-year part time MFM [after 2 – 3 years of work experience]
n    1-year part-time Diploma in Financial Management
n    2-year correspondence Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and specialize in Finance.
Most of B-Schools as well as Commerce Colleges offer the above programs.

We want information about course of social work. After done this course, which sector we can career in this fields ? How long period of course / Which institutes teaching this course ?
— Sharvari Gaekwad

Please note that there is a 3-year Bachelor’s course as well as a 2-year Master’s course in Social Work [since you haven’t be specific in asking the exact course]. Such courses are offered by TISS, SNDT University, Nirmala Niketan. You can get employment in any of the NGO’s or rehabilitation centres depending on your interest and readiness to work in that field.
