Initiatives like 'Make In India' by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inspired many to go back to our roots and revitalize our traditional and sustainable arts and crafts. Who best to spearhead such an initiative than the future of the nation. The Craft Cluster Initiative of the NIFT Mumbai is a carefully developed formula for integrating the crafts sector of the country with the mainstream. The intention of the initiative is to involve NIFT’s professional capabilities in the areas of Design, Technology, Marketing and Management. The culmination of their efforts came together in the form of a "Maharashtrian Power Walk" on May 28, 2016 at the NCPA, Mumbai. NIFT Mumbai along with Government of Maharashtra has taken up the responsibility to conduct design intervention and product diversification for the crafts of Maharashtra like Kolhapuri Chappals, Musical instrument of Miraj, Banjara Embroidery, Himroo shawls from Aurangabad, Hupari’s silver jewellery, Warli from Dahanu Road, Paithani from Paithan, Kosa from Bhandara, Latur’s Durries and Coir from Sindhudurg.
