We are in conversation with Mr. VC Nair, the Founder & Chief Mentor of ‘KSkool’, a unique Graduate Skill Development cum Placements program at Kandivali Education Society’s Shroff College of Arts & Commerce in Mumbai to celebrate its success.
What is the ‘KSkool’ program and how it was born?
It was in the month of August 2012 when I visited our Alma Matter to recruit 4 students for my organization which deals into consulting services. It is during this meeting that I found out that a systematic process for Campus Placements was missing not even in my own College but also in many Colleges. This made me come up with the idea of establishing a dedicated Centre for Campus Placements. However, the challenge was to upgrade the skills of these young Under-Graduates who were good in Academics but lacked the ability to get employed in good organizations. This rattled my mind and made me think on the idea of having a uniquely designed Graduate Skill Development cum Placements program for our students in Campus itself. It was then that I proposed this program called ‘KSkool’ which would be a new chapter in the glorious history of KES’ Shroff College which celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year. On 1st Feb 2013, ‘KSkool’ program saw the light of day.
How is the ‘KSkool’ program different from others?
Unlike other Training programs which are Lecture based, KSkool is a Workshop module where students engage themselves in High Octane Interactive Tasks which enable them to solve problems related to Low Confidence, Fear, Depression, Stress and mainly Confusion related to their Careers. The Training workshops comprise of interactive modules on Public Speaking, Presentation Skills, Group Discussions, Personal Interviews, Stress Management, Time Management, Resume Building, Self Management, Team Management, Positive Attitude, Self Motivation, Career Goal setting & Achievement where each and every student participates to resolve his query in addition to getting Individual Coaching in the three years of Graduation which is very unique as compared to others as it houses 4000+ students.
What has ‘KSkool’ achieved so far?
‘Achievements at KSkool is a given’. Students have overcome their fear, have become energetic, become more confident than before, have become more controlled, are not a part of the confused lot anymore, are better decision makers, are more organized than others and above all have become people with positive attitudes. This remarkable feat has been noticed by Parents, Staff, Management, B-Schools and above all Corporates. 100+ students have been placed in leading Banks, Insurance, Stock Broking, Telecom, Retail and Information Technology enabled services companies at salaries of Rs. 15,000/- per month.
Why do you think ‘KSkool’ became a success?
Firstly, to get a green signal for such a program which has no reference in the history of other colleges itself is a milestone and I owe the success of this program to Dr. Lily Bhushan, Principal and Dr. VS Kannan, Vice Principal who believed in me right from the word ‘Go’. Secondly, Management Committees are the backbone of any institution and I feel that stalwarts like Shri Mahesh Shah, Shri Satish Dattani, Shri Vinod Vora, Shri Mahesh Chandarana, Shri Rajnikant Ghelani, Shri Navin Sampat, Shri Rajendra Danthi have stood by me in times of thick & thin to make me stand at Vantage Point today. These two groups of visionaries have backed my plans since its inception to make it a success. Finally, I would credit all my students who had put their faith in me to get enlightened via this unique program.
