
To encourage children from cities and villages to understand each other as well as give greater exposure to both in robotics, K. J. Somaiya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology, Ayurvihar, Everard Nagar, Sion, Mumbai organised a robotic festival, where the best students from each school showcased their skills.
This event, showed to the city students the talent that existed in rural India and for the rural children provided them an exposure to students from Mumbai.
As one of the initiatives, K. J. Somaiya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology college students visited K.J. Somaiya English Medium School & S.K. Somaiya Vinay Mandir Kannada School in Samirwadi, Sharda English Medium School in Kopargaon, Somaiya Vidya Mandir in Lakshmiwadi, Somaiya Vidyamandir in Sakarwadi, S.K. Somaiya Secondary School in Nareshwadi, The Somaiya School and S.K. Somaiya Vinaymandir in Vidyavihar to train these school students in the most exciting field of Robotics. Over the past year students and professors from the college visited the schools, and held workshops on robotics. Interestingly, the girls from rural areas have shown great interest and dexterity in the robotic workshops.
Shilpa Gagad, a class 9 student from S.K. Somaiya Secondary School in Nareshwadi said, “I am very happy to come here and meet the other students and compete with them. I stay in a small village and we have never seen a robot before.”
