We are living in the era of reputation management and the management of intangibles. Today, reputation has to be viewed as a strategic weapon, emergent and monitored. Corporate Communicators must be innovative, passionate and adaptive. Brands are the glue of reputation. The important purpose of corporate communications is to develop brand equity internally and externally.

The latest trends that are emerging are use of Videos for communication, rise of enterprise social network and the artificial intelligence are the things to look out for.

What is corporate communication?
Corporate communication is a management function or department, like marketing, finance, or operations, dedicated to the dissemination of information to key constituencies, the execution of corporate strategy and the development of messages for a variety of purposes for inside and outside the organisation. In today’s global corporation, this function serves as the conscience of the corporation and is responsible for the organisation’s reputation. The Department usually oversees communication strategy, media relations, crisis communications, internal communications, reputation management, corporate responsibility, investor relations, Government affairs and sometimes marketing communication.

What all career options can be pursued under it?
You have lot of career option under corporate communication. We classified into two main categories: internal communications and external communications. Internal communications includes communication with all contacts within the company, such as human resources (HR) and supervisor-employee relations. External communications includes communication with all contacts outside the company, such as Government agencies, the media and the local community. What skills does one require for the same?
The skills of writing and developing stories are exactly what companies need. Students need to understand how to create interesting content for readers, potential customers, or the public. Students need to understand how the work for each social media platform if they do not want to be left behind or make a mess.
Social Content Creation, Story: Students need to understand how to use social media to create meaningful conversations with the public. Must understand what kind of stories that will attract the attention of social media users or public. Must understand the tactics of the press release and press conference content, or PR marketing strategy, so that will become an interesting topic for media people and engaging for public.

Job opportunities and expected salary: You have many different opportunities in corporate communication. Here are two main categories namely, Internal Communication and External Communication. Internal communications jobs: Human resources manager, Applied communications manager, Organizational communications specialist, change managers,

External communications jobs: Public relations director, Media relations manager, Director of public affairs, Associate program manager, Online editorial director, investor relations, Government relations manager, etc.

In terms of salary:  At the initial stage, students can earn in between 30k to 40K. The rest depends on their skills; sky is the limit for those who do well in this field.

Over the last decade or so, there are some very good colleges that have come up that are providing relevant course for those interested in pursuing a career in communication.
