After a long time comes a fun story about the responsibilities of sudden parenthood and being able to set aside differences to show love to one another and to a child. It’s a great romantic comedy with a twist that should appeal to anyone who’s in love.
Holly (Katherine Heigl) is an up-and-coming caterer, single with a busy and well drawn out life. She envies the life of her friends Alison and Peter Novak (Christina Hendricks and Hayes MacArthur). She meets up with Eric Messer (Josh Duhamel) a promising network sports director and eye candy for the girls.
He enjoys life free from responsibility, worries or a committed relationship. The blind date with Messer, arranged by Alison and Peter, is a disaster, as Holly just can’t get the chemistry right. They both leave disliking each other.
But destiny has other plans when all of a sudden, Alison and Peter die in a car accident. Their daughter Sophie is left orphaned. Holly and Messer, who are appointed guardians to Sophie, now have a job on their hands…….. to look after the little child. To top it all, they cannot see eye to eye, but keeping their differences aside and juggling between their job and home, they make time to look after Sophie.
The plot takes off from here and reveals how two individuals, poles apart come together to bring happiness in different ways, from changing diapers, screaming at each other and falling in love with each other, not before Holly flirts with a cute pediatrician (Josh Lucas). Messer on the other hand has his share of hotties too.
So for a full 2 hours or so you have a cute kid, a handful of laughs and the occasionally romantic rom – pom.
