Watching your comic book super heroes come alive is a treat for the kids. Superheroes cinema such as Superman, X-Men, Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man carry a rush of their own. The 2008 flick Iron Man acts as an introduction to the viewer, to the Marvel comic ‘hero’.
The story begins with quirky, super smart, industrialist Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) finding himself in a situation he is unaccustomed to. He is in the middle of a war zone where he is nearly killed, only to be saved by terrorists who command him to build the ultimate weapon. Instead of submitting to their demands, Tony secretly builds a suit of mechanized armor that is able to save him. With his return to civilisation, he learns that the weapons that have made him rich actually cause harm to innocent people. He is now on a trip to stop selling arms, and also to make a more advanced suit to stop the damage he's done. As a result, he makes an enemy of his second in command, Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges).
Stark also has a love interest cum assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), a military buddy James Rhodes (Terence Howard) and his unseen electronic "butler" Jarvis (voiced by Paul Bettany) by his side.
The action scenes of Stark using the mechanized suit to work out are interesting. The battles are great and last a good few minutes until the next begin. The effects and sound (though not very spectacular) add to the thrill of watching such a flick. Listen out for Stark flying around, where you can hear his jets zoom around from speaker to speaker.
Bonus features: Deleted and extended scenes.
