“An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” falls rightly in place when we watch ‘I Am Wrath’.
John Travolta (Stanley Hill) is a former Black Ops agent. Back from an overseas trip, his wife (Rebecca De Mornay) meets him at the airport. All is well until they reach the car park, where hoodlums lie in wait and rob them. Stanley is forced to watch as his wife is murdered in front of him by Lemi K (Paul Solan), an insanely crazy drug kingpin. Badly wounded, he rushes to the police department to lodge a complaint. Days later, when he identifies the killer at an identification parade at the police station, the killer is left off the hook.
No one he talks to in the justice department seems to want to help him. This leaves him frustrated. Stanley is inspired to take his revenge after reading a verse from the Bible that quotes the Book of Jeremiah 6:11 ….I am Wrath…. Stanley decides to take the law into his own hands and bring the murderers to justice. Joined by a former comrade-in-arms Dennis (Christopher Meloni), the duo move step by step to uncover who actually is behind the killing of his wife. But danger lurks as Lemi orders his men to find Stanley and finish him, his family and even his dog. His daughter and her family become the next target of the murderer, but escape.
Stanley and Dennis go on a killing spree, to find the murderers, only to learn that they are only the hit men, while a larger conspiracy leads to the upper ranks of the government. John Travolta who has given us ‘Saturday Night Fever’, ‘Grease,’ ‘Broken Arrow’, seems to go back to action/thriller movies. Even though he gives a great performance here, we would’ve expected much more from the superstar. Expect lots of gunshots knives and explosions, besides big guns, tattoos, and seedy hangouts. Though very predictable, it’s a good revenge film.
