Ad film and music video film director Divya Palat, co-founder of Balancing Act Productions, shot a video recently with actors Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif (which can be viewed on YouTube) that delivers a message against body shaming others. Divya, sent across a self-written poem on the current topic, that she feels strongly about, to Shah Rukh Khan and SRK agreed to be a part of the project. The video begins with SRK mouthing the words, alongside some shots of a young girl: “Who do you think you are – dissecting a face, body and her hair? She will never be defined just by her look.” Katrina adds: “That’s the thing/Each person is like a book. Shout out loud/ Don’t be afraid of the crowd – Who do you think you are?” The film delivers a strong message to people who pass judgements on or make assumptions about other people based on their looks and/or body parts. At the same time, it stresses that each person is unique and that their body, life, struggles and strife are also uniquely their own. People on their part should not allow themselves, it says, to be defined by other people’s judgements of their looks or, for that matter, the number of ‘likes’ they get on social media. While this happens to be a subject that many people are discussing nowadays, what Divya most liked about the shoot was Shah Rukh Khan’s totally unstarry behavior on the sets. Says Divya: “SRK asked me to read the poem to him a couple of times because he wanted to understand how I experienced it. He was most willing to be directed and there was absolutely no attitude that one may expect of a superstar like him. I thought that was huge. For me, he is the ultimate hero!” Add one more respectful admirer for King Khan, then?!
