Author Twinkle Khanna’s upcoming book ‘Pyjamas are Forgiving’ is up for release in September, writes Elle magazine. Twinkle is interviewed in the August issue of the magazine by literary festival-colleague Moni Mohsin who says that when she first met Twinkle they were both speakers at a LitFest and that she’d expected loads of attitude from the star-wife. However, to Moni’s surprise they soon became good friends. Subsequently Moni was asked to read a few chapters from ‘Pyjamas are Forgiving’ and to interview the author for ‘Elle’. While Moni has it figured out that Twinkle’s new book is about what it means to be a professionally successful middle-aged woman, unhitched and childless in a society that defines women purely as mothers and wives, she also realises that in line with the author’s first two books – ‘Mrs Funnybones’ and ‘The Legend of Laxmi Prasad’ – it will be quirky and humorous. In their interview, Twinkle says, among other things, that it is when she is finishing a book, in those last few months, that she finds that her ability to concentrate on anything else vanishes. At that point, she is at her desk for 10-12 hours a day. Everything and everyone including her children (and this remains a constant source of guilt for her) turn into white noise. Adds Twinkle about the relevance of the book’s title: “In a world of skinny jeans, the pyjama woman is someone who finds a way to be comfortable in her own skin.” We like!
