In the year 1987, the burglar along with other co-accused had looted Nutan Jewelers at Nehru Nagar in Mulund and absconded.
Officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch have arrested a man who was on the run for over 30 years in connection with a burglary case. The accused identified as Dilip Manohar Patel (55) was nabbed by the unit VII sleuths of the crime branch on Tuesday. As per the police reports, Patel along with his accomplices had executed a robbery at a jewellery shop in 1987 after which he absconded and was later held from Gujarat.
According to police, on October 11, 1987 Patel along with other co-accused had intruded inside Nutan Jewelers situated at Nehru Nagar in Mulund (west) with an intention of robbery. The accused men also assaulted a salesman of the shop and looted total 160 grams of gold and fled away after which Mulund police station registered a case under section 452, 394 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code.
“While some of the accused were released out on bail, Patel managed to get away to escape arrest. After the case was transferred to crime branch, we launched a manhunt to track down Patel and based on credible information, on Tuesday, we managed to apprehend him from Kalod district of Gujarat. Patel had about five cases of robbery lodged against him and we are yet to find out whether any more offences are there against him over all these years,” said a police officer.
