The slain matka king, Suresh Bhagat’s brother Vinod, was to have been killed some days ago. An attack was reportedly planned by Suresh’s ex-wife Jaya, who was shifted to Byculla Jail from the J.J.Hospital just three weeks ago.
Vinod said, “I did not know anything about the attempt to kill me. I was surprised when I received a phone call from Malad police officials. I think that Jaya must have masterminded this as I have been fighting and opposing all her activities. I think that the frustration of going back to jail may have caused her to take the step. They have already taken over the empire of my brother, I mean, the business and family wealth. I have not planned any dummy attack on myself.”
The Malad police station arrested an unidentified person from a renowned mall located on the Link Road at Malad, after he was detained by security guards there for being in possession of a country-made revolver with live catridges.
Police officials revealed, “We were informed by the mall authorities about the person identified as Deepak Terusu Singh, 23. During interrogation he revealed that Suresh Bhagat’s former wife, Jaya, had contracted him to kill Vinod Bhagat.”
Sources claim that Deepak belongs to Harish Mandvekar’s gang. Also it is likely that Vinod could have planned the attack on himself as he is alleged to have done in the year 2008.
There is a continuing feud for control of the matka empire between Jaya Bhagat and her brother-in-law, Vinod Bhagat
The attack that never was?
On October 25, 2008 at 9.15 pm while Vinod Bhagat was leaving in an Ambassador car, two men appeared on a Yamaha motorbike and the pillion rider fired a round at the car outside Manick Lodge in Gamdevi. The Crime Branch started conducting parallel investigations in the case, and three accused identified as Deepak Suman Patel (28), Amar Ramkumar Jha (24) and Ajay Singh Amarjeet Singh (32), were arrested. There was strong suspicion that Vinod had orchestrated the attack himself hoping to implicate Jaya for attempt to murder him.
