Kalina University ‘Sex for Marks’ case
Tout flees from city, takes Rs 50,000 from reputed central-suburb college librarian who is detained by BKC police; Multiple team set up to nab accused.
After the week-long investigation into the Kalina University 'Sex For Marks' case, the BKC police has singled out and quizzed a librarian, working in one of the Sion-Matunga-based colleges situated in the central suburbs, after his alleged link came through in the Call Detail Record (CDR) of the accused. Shockingly, the librarian, Gaurav Salunkhe, has allegedly given around Rs 50,000 to the tout Nafees alias Nilesh alias Nikhil on the same day that he fled from the city.
According to sources, Salunkhe, who resides in the Manipada locality, bang opposite Kalina University campus, was in touch with Nafees for the last four months. It is also learned that Gaurav had introduced one of the TYBA students to Nafees after knowing that he can change the results or increase the percentage at a price.
Interestingly, even though Nafees had assured Gaurav that the student will get around 75 per cent he only got 36 per cent. Further, on September 12, Nafees contacted Gaurav and said his party has passed. The librarian paid him Rs 50,000 on demand but knowing that Nafees was not a professor, an FIR was registered against him at the BKC police station.
On the day that Nafees fled from the city one of the complainants was also with him to get her work done and her PAN card, which was forcefully taken from her, was not returned until he boarded the train. She was forced to accompany Nafees to Sion-Andheri-Marol Naka areas.
Going through the CDR the police came to know the librarian was also in Nafees's contact list, and on his direction three to four people were also called for investigation.
Three different teams have been set up to probe the case and the chase is on to arrest the accused, the police said.
Shockingly, the amount paid by the victim was transferred into one Shefali Sawant's account. The police does not know if Sawant is working with Kalina University or an outsider. One of the youths, who was present in the Vakola Yashwant Nagar room where the victim was brought to write the exam paper, is also likely to be made an accused in the case.
