Two dead, over 11 injured including minors after slabs in well collapse in Vile Parle; NDRF, fire brigade team handle the situation
A spiritiua “Puja’’ of north Indians turned into tragedy after the slabs of a very old Vile Parle based well caved in suddenly in which two including three year-old girl died while another 11 women including children were recuperating in the hospitals.
According to Police sources, the incident took place at around 17.00 hours when around 15-20 women including minor girls were sitting on the well situated inside the Ruia bunglow in Vile Parle and performing the ‘’Vyutiya’’ puja, but suddenly slabs of the well on which they were sitting gave way and all the women and children fell into it.
Few locals who were present on the spot were involved in the rescue act and subsequently informed the local police as well as fire department. One of the ladies who was outside the well, used her sari to save lives of few women and minors.
The deceased have been identified as Divya Chandrashekhar Kumar (3) and 35 year-old unidentified lady, while 11 persons who wereinjured have been identified as Mahek Gupta (3), Chanda Gupta (38), Geeta Gupta (36), Sumitra Gupta (47) and others. After the incident NDRF, Fire Brigade and MumbaI Police team turned up to rescue the people, and till late night rescue operation was going on.
Sources from the Vile Parle police revealed that, on the basis of primary information an Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been made in the case. The well is very old and these women who hailed from the nearby locality used to come to perform Vyutiya puja every year after Ganesh Chaturthi.
