Son leaves his 80 year-old mother to fend for herself on the road; disappears after selling her Kurla property, mother approaches Mumbai Police
An octogenarian has been compelled to live on the streets after her 40 year-old son sedated her and obtained her thumb impression to sell her property located at a prime location in Kurla. The locals in the vicinity are helping her to with food and provided shelter to the lady.
The victim, Amina Hasan Sheikh, owns a commercial space inside Mariam Compound at Indira Nagar on LBS road in Kurla and has been residing over there since the past 30 years. The victim was living with her son Nazir Sheikh, her niece and other family members. In April, her son Nazir got her thumb impression without her permission and made the sale agreement on his name.
Nazir sold out the commercial unit to Saeed Khan for Rs 45 lakh and later disappeared from the locality abandoning his mother and left her on the road to fend for herself.
After her son failed to return, Amina approached the local residents and then the local police.
Talking to The AD&C, Amina said, “My son cheated me. He sold my home and commercial unit without my permission. As I am an old lady, I don't know how to manage property matters. He took my thumb print and sold my property for Rs 45 lakhs to Saeed Khan and then disappeared from the locality. When I found out his whereabouts, he threatened me to do whatever I wanted and that he wouldn't return a penny to me.”
Her younger daughter is also the resident of the locality but she hasn't come forward to help her mother. “My daughter said when Nazir sold out the unit and fled with money and she didn't get her share, hence she didn't deem fit to help me. With help of some local social activist, I have sent a letter to Kurla Police station and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kurla unit. I want my property back and my son should be booked for cheating me. I am staying on the road from last one month.”
When The AD&C contacted Saeeed Khan, the new owner of the property said, '' I have purchased this property from Nazir after verifying all the documents. We have not done anything wrong and have paid the amount. If these people have family dispute, they should solve it at their end. This claimant for this property did not have any documents on her name. It was in the name of Nazir, we know only him.''
Saeed refused to share the property documents and stated that he will produce the same in court. He is now the owner of the entire Mariam Compound and all of the commercial units.
The social activist who helping the victim said, “We will help this lady to get her property back. We will move court against Nazir and Saeed because she will be rendered homeless. We are at the moment sheltering her and providing food but she is still sleeping on the road. The commercial unit is valued at over Rs 1 crore.”
