Almost after a month, the BMC H/East ward finally took the action against an illegal mobile tower, which was installed inside the Sattar Garage in Kalina. The tower was removed after strong protest by the local residents which prompted action from the authorities.
According to sources, members of The United Kalina People’s Welfare Association met Congress corporator Brian Miranda and demanded immediate removal of the mobile tower.
Taking cognizance over the issue, the corporator directed the officer of BMC and asked him to take action against this illegal tower.
Earlier, local residents approached the ward officer of the locality demanding immediate action against the erection of a mobile tower in the middle of the slum. The tower which is said to be constructed a month ago was alleged to be built without any official permission from the municipal authorities.
The NGO has earlier alleged that the tower has been installed by owner of Sattar garage identified as Abdul Sattar. Initially, when they came to know about the construction, they requested the garage owner to stop the work as the tower shall effect the kids and senior citizens of the slum area in an adverse manner.
Their pleas were unheard and later they found that the garage owners didn't have valid permission from the corporation and the entire construction of the tower was illegal. Then they contacted the local corporator of the vicinity Tulip Brian Miranda so that the officers take cognizance and put an end to the construction on immediate basis,” said Saif Khan, a resident of Kalina Dongar who mobilised other residents in order to protest against the tower building.
