500 kg ganja seized in ANC’s biggest seizure ever
It is not new for the officers of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) to catch and confiscate contraband substances, but it is unusual for the officers of Mumbai Police's elite and efficient anti-drug team to recover such a massive haul.
The Azad Maidan unit of the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police arrested three persons found to be in possession of 500 kg of cannabis (Ganja) worth approximately Rs.1 crore in the international market.This seizure of weed, the plant-based narcotic drug, is the biggest ever made by officers of the city's police force. It was also revealed that it was the handiwork of an inter-state drug cartel, which was busted yesterday.Acting on a prior tip-off, a trap was laid near the Eastern Freeway (southward bound) on the Kanjurmarg-Vikroli Service Road and the trio – Sanjay Mohite (36) a resident of Malegaon district, Nasik, Nandlal Beldar (55), a native of Jalgaon and Kalu Mohite (28) – were nabbed.
Apart from the contraband, a pick-up vehicle (believed to be for delivery in the city) – a Bolero jeep (MH-05-R- 8724) – worth Rs. 8 lakhs was also confiscated and currently in possession of the sleuths. The accused have been booked under Sections 8 (c) r/w 20 (c) 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, under the supervision of DCP (Narcotics) Shivdeep Lande and the dedicated efforts of the Azad Maidan unit.
