Political leaders from various parties including the Shiv Sena and the Congress are wondering why the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration is giving undue favours to Gurudas Kamat, Union Minister of State, Communication and Information Technology.
Recently, responding to a written recommendation by Kamat on his official letterhead, the BMC alloted a tender to a private contractor without issuing any tender notice. (The ADC has a copy of Kamat’s letter and also the BMC’s reply to it).
Going further, the BMC administration invited Kamat for the inauguration of an MRI machine in the Lokmanya Tilak General Hospital at Sion earlier this week. However, the administration did not invite the Women and Child Development Minister, Professor Varsha Gaikwad who, like Kamat, also belongs to the Congress party.
A councillor who did not wish to be named, said, “The Municipal Commissioner is giving undue favour to Kamat, probably to get the next posting in his Ministry in the Union Government.” Prof Gaikwad added, “I really felt sorry. I have conveyed my grievances to the CM.”
According to sources, Municipal Commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya is under heavy pressure from political parties as the BMC elections are approaching soon.
