A 52-year-old resident of the Penta Galaxy building, Wadala was murdered on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Anand Narayan, a journalist, suffered serious injuries by knife on the neck and was taken to the Sion Hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.
The accused, Sarang Patarkar and Selvam Manigam Devendra aka Tambi, had entered Narayan’s house with him. In a CCTV footage, one of the accused was seen carrying a knife in his pocket when they entered Narayan’s house, who was at the time alone at his house. The footage revealed that at around 2 a.m. both the accused left his house and quickly went for the lift where they were seen having a discussion.
Narayan had started a hotel business with Patarkar in 2015 in Parel for which he put his house and his wife’s jewelry on gold loan in the hope of return of profits. However, couple of years later, his investment of around Rs. 2 crore went into loss.
It was alleged that Narayan held Patarkar responsible for this loss and was demanding a return of around Rs 70 lakhs as he intended to start a new hotel all by himself. In order to resolve this issue, Narayan had met with Patarkar and Tambi along with a couple of other guys on the night of the murder after which he insisted that they talk at his home.
The police have registered a case under section 302 and have arrested Patarkar, who had fled to Pune. Tambi came forward and confessed the crime to the police early morning and surrendered himself.
“He was a good man and did not have any problems in the society as well. We have come today to support his family in this hard time,” said Mahindra Gaikwad, Chairman of the society.
Narayan is survived by his wife and a 12-year old daughter.
