Adarsh scam-tainted former Congress MLC Kanhaiyalal Gidwani and his son Kailash were yesterday arrested by the CBI on charges of bribing the agency’s own counsel to dilute the case against them!
They were produced before the Special Judge in the evening and remanded to police custody till March 16. Along with them, two others, tax consultant J K Jagiasi and Mandar Goswamy, special counsel in the ministry of law and justice, subsequently working as retainer counsel with the CBI, were similarly remanded.
These developments came about as a consequence of a complaint the CBI had received from an Air India official, alleging that Jagiasi had offered to dilute charges against him in another case on payment of Rs 50 lakh. The tax consultant was arrested by the CBI on February 20. It was during interrogation that it emerged he had received Rs 1.25 crore from Gidwani to similarly dilute charges against him in the Adarsh housing scam case. He allegedly passed on Rs 25 lakh to Goswamy.
Yesterday, the three were arrested and produced before the Special Judge of the CBI court.
