For the last four consecutive days, lake volumes have been increasing by more than 5,000 MLD each day. On Friday total rise of 5,839 MLD was recorded in all dams within a span of 24 hours, while on Thursday, it was 5,655 MLD.
Yesterday, though the city received less than 5 mm rainfall, there were showers in the reservoir areas.
Till Friday evening 4.30 pm, city had recorded an average rainfall of 8 mm, with 2.2 mm in the Eastern suburbs and 3.1 mm in the Western suburbs. Whereas in the catchments areas, Vihar recorded 88 mm, Tulsi 62 mm and Bhatsa 56 mm.
It is quite an unprecedented situation, receiving such heavy rainfall in the city as well as in the catchments area of the dams, in the first phase of the monsoon.
The Municipal Commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya said, “Rainfall at all our dams has been more than expected compared to last year.”
