On Monday night last, a 19-year-old pillion rider Sahil Kadam suffered serious injuries and died because of imprudence and rush of blood of a BEST bus driver at Hindamata, Dadar. The deceased was on a bike with his cousin Sandeep Jawale who was riding when the bus driver hit the motorcycle from behind, causing serious injuries to Sahil.
The FIR has been filed against the supposed BEST bus driver at Bhoiwada police station, Dadar, and the cops are still looking for the absconding driver. Senior Police Inspector Dattatray Patil, on Thursday said, “We have started our search from the night of the incident itself and the CCTV footage nearby is being checked.” The inspector further confirmed that the deceased is the son of a police constable.
BEST officials however, have denied that the bus belongs to them and have no knowledge of the incident whatsoever. “There is no evidence that the bus was a BEST bus and as of now it is just an assumption,” said the officials. However, the BEST officials have assured that the matter will be taken seriously and will be looked into.
The heavy rains caused the bike to skid after being hit by the bus, the plate number of the bus was not noted down by the complainant. At present there are no reports of the number being known to anyone present at the spot of the accident. The investigating officer of the case said, “There was no number noted down and hence the police are unaware of the bus number as well.” She further added, “The accident happened a little ahead of the Hindmata bus stop. It happened near the bridge where the petrol pump is situated but the CCTV footage in the area has not captured the bus. There aren't a lot of CCTV cameras nearby. We are carrying out the investigation.”
