After the reports were published in national and international newspapers about the gross failure of Suresh Kalamadi, Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) Chairperson, in managing the games, a backlash is being felt in the Congress party. Accusing Kalmadi of defaming the party, several leaders have demanded his resignation form of all the posts and offices he holds, including as the Member of Parliament.
Anant Gadgil, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson, said, “The state has given dedicated, devoted and intelligent leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Shankarroa Chavan and Yashwantrao Chavan to the nation. It is unfortunate for the same state to have leaders like Suresh Kalamdi, who have not only tarnished party’s image, but the nation’s as well.”
He further said that there are several serious issues, including that of Jammu and Kashmir, which needs to be addressed on priority basis, but due to Kalmadi’s lackadaisical approach towards the game, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet has to divert their attention from serious issues to the games.
Gadgil added that Kalamdi must be reprimanded, if not, then it would spell disaster for the party.
