Patients nearby notice fungus in the bottle just before the child was administered the drip
A case of severe negligence has come to light at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Nair Hospital when fungus was found in a saline bottle just before the patient could be injected with it. According to information received, the entire batch of the saline bottles have now been scrapped and sent for investigation. However, this incident has brought to light how lives of the poor are handled in civic hospitals with a careless attitude from the administration.
A child who was being treated at the hospital was about to be injected with saline when people who were nearby noticed the fungus inside the bottle and alerted the staff. Taking the matter seriously, the hospital stopped the use of all bottles from that batch. At the same time, other hospitals in BMC have also been directed not to use the saline bottles of the said batch.
However, experts questioned the reasons for such a major negligence? According to the doctors, if a patient was given this contaminated saline then there could be many problems, including allergies. Dr. Ramesh Bharmal, dean of the hospital said that the entire batch of saline bottles was scrapped as soon as the matter came to light and orders for investigation have also been given in this regard. After the report comes, further action will be taken.
