Accused molestor caught, his 3 friends slip away
Waiting to take a train back home after a hard day's work, a vigilant 25-year-old woman helped nab one of her molestors, who took advantage of the crowd and rush during peak hours at the (formerly VT) CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) railway station.
The victim, Meena Mathur (name changed to protect identity of the victim), who felt someone touch her inappropriately, immediately started yelling and managed to catch hold of 19-year-old Dharmesh Parihar, while his other three accomplices managed to escape in the confusion that ensued later.
On hearing Mathur's cries, a few commuters came to her help and ensured that Parihar was handed over to the GRP (Government Railway Police) on Monday evening at around 7:30 pm.
The police revealed that Parihar was not directly involved in the act, but it was one of his friends, who managed to give the slip as the trio ran away into the rush that was already waiting on the platform to take the train.
However, it is not known what Parihar, who is a watchman and a resident of Borivali, was doing in VT along with his friends.
“Even though Dharmesh himself has not done anything, but the fact that he was party to it and allowed this kind of inappropriate behaviour by one of his friends makes him an accused in this case. He should have warned them against doing something of this sort,” said API Ganpat Gondke of the CSMT railway police station.
On the basis of the incident, a FIR was lodged and Parihar was charged under Sections 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Immediately after the incident, the accused was detained and later produced in a local court yesterday.
