The IPL edition of the Vento, is nothing different apart from ‘some added accessories and a free cricketing gear’ says Kunal Chonkar in this review…
The Volkswagen Vento was launched in the Indian markets to compete against Honda City in the mid size premium sedan sector. Produced on the lines of the Polo, the company’s newest edition of the IPL isn’t very different from earlier launches.
Available only in the petrol version, the IPL edition has the same 1.6 L petrol which produces a torque of 105 PS. The model is launched with both manual and automatic transmission. The petrol version is equipped with a 5 speed and 6 speed automatic gear-box with triptronic.
Features
The vintage German designed dynamic exteriors and interiors remain same in the new edition. The front view is catchy with centrally positioned logo, chrome finished grille and horizontal thunder flash lights. As is the front, so is the rear sober and simple. Mounted with high brake lights, exteriors are crafted clean and crisp line finishes.
The Dashboard is enveloped in two-tone anti-glare black and beige with glove box, premium sound system, climatronic AC, air vents, etc. A huge storage space for cups, magazines, luggage etc. are carved inside the cabin. The car is stuffed with driver and co-driver side airbags, front and rear fog lights, front disc brakes, ABS, electronic anti-theft immobiliser, manual day/night interior rear view mirror, height adjustable 3 point front seat belts, anti-theft system with interior surveillance and back up alarm, pinch guard safety for all 4 power windows, etc.
Kitna deti hai?
A 1.6 L petrol engine has been clubbed with 5 speed manual transmission and automatic gearbox. The DOHC Valve configuration with 4 valves per cylinder results in a dynamic performance of the car. Nothing new has been provided in this car which claims to offer a mileage of 11.2 kmpl in the city and 15.83 kmpl on the highway while the AT version gives a mileage of 14.4 kmpl.
Power
Powered by a 1.6 liter DOHC in-line type engine with 4 Valves per cylinder, the car offers greater torque and clear emission. The triptronic is only a sigh of breath for smoother and quicker gear shifts. This engine offers idling speed to be lowered without compromising on its high-speed performance. The highly powerful engine of Volkswagen Vento lays out an impressive power of 105 bhp at 5250 rpm and a thumping torque of 153 Nm at 3800 rpm.
Brake that…
The IPL edition is fitted with a sound braking system. The front wheels of Volkswagen Vento come with Disc Brakes while its rear wheels have drum brakes. A good braking system helps in decelerating the car very quickly. The other advanced features that make the handling of Volkswagen Vento more convenient is ABS (Antilock Brake System) that ensures the prevention of wheel locking in case of sudden braking. Moreover it prevents the vehicle from skidding in case of hard braking on a wet or slippery road.
The suspension too, in the all new Volkswagen Vento are very powerful one and maintains the stability of the car. Piled with a front MacPherson strut suspension with stabiliser bar and rear semi-independent type trailing arm shockers.
Price and sale date
Priced at Rs. 7.24 lakhs (ex showroom New Delhi) at a premium of Rs. 25,000/- over the base Vento. The cars will go on sale from the first week of April.
