Vasudev Kamath’s paintings inspired by the divine verses of saints are on view at the Jehangir Art Gallery from today. Kamath is a good portrait painter. He received the Draper Grand Award from the Portrait Society of America two years ago.
Kamath has done images of saints who are all in animated state. Kamath says: “By shedding the evil of ego, the saints have strengthened their spirituality. When the noble souls reveal their thoughts, the fragrance of their wisdom spreads: The first painting in the series was Dnyaneshwar and then came Tukoba, Tulsidas and others.
Vasudev Kamath should also hold some good portrait painting. There are faces which are extraordinary, great and beautiful. Saints and spirituality – the theme of his current paintings – may not be of interest to all. What however is seen in the paintings is the mastery the Kamath has over the art language.
