Ghanshyam Gupta is a painter, printmaker and a sculptor. He is well into stone carving, metal casting and fibre molding. He also does printmaking using various techniques like Serigraph and etching. Ghansyam: “The contact and subject of my work is based on past experiences. I subconsciously filter these experiences and bring them out visually in an abstract figurative manner. The total image comes forth as an intricately woven collage of colour which reflects my subconscious mind.
The themes are based on love and fantasy which translated through the filter of my tools, embrace feeling than form – as they are not literally depicted.”
“The circle is especially significant here as it does not allow your feelings to get pushed into any dark. Corners and help in maintaining steady concentration. The day-to-day life, however mundane they might seem, still manage to inspire me and are the essence of my work.” When I saw the untitled work – circle – I was reminded of Raza’s ‘Bindu’.
