In Tanjore art, we find abundance of aesthetics, divinity and bright colours. They are visually pleasing. There is elaborate work in them. And artists like Maheshwari Raja excel in this form of art.
Maheshwari’s paintings are on display at the Bajaj Art Gallery from today. The colours used are earthly and traditional. There are over 60 paintings at the show.
The themes in the paintings are found in the Tanjore Palace and temples of the south. The paintings are enriched and they glitter because they have gold leaves and many-hued stones.
Maheshwari got training from her husband Raja Mahes. She has curated shows for him at many places. She has participated in many solo and group shows.
Along with her husband, she is running an art gallery in Chennai.
We see the simple depiction of ornaments, draperies and other images of the past which are based on the art of Tanjore and surrounding areas.
The exhibition which starts today will go on till October 19. Contact: 09841150005.
