‘Spiritual’ images in Bhiva Punekar’s works
Wednesday, September 12, 2012
Bhiva Punekar claims his paintings are not religious but are spiritual. The basic theme of most of the paintings is ‘lingam’ – a symbol used for the worship of Shiva.
Bhiva Bunekar: “My art reflects the inner communication between the cosmos and the human. The inner glow generated makes my figures radiate with vibrations that have power to penetrate mind and soul of the viewer, thus completing the circle of communication I initiate.”
Bhiva uses bright colours. Symbols and spirituality apart, the paintings show that the artist has quite an evolved language, a capacity for arranging images in a skilful ways. There is confident brush work and well-defined lines which go to make the forms. The artist does not have to bother much about spirituality: he has the ability to create beautiful compositions with high-calibre art forms.
The exhibition is at the Nehru Centre Art Gallery – till 17th September. Contact: +91 2226856768.
