Geetika Bajaj who is exhibiting her paintings from today at the Jehangir Art Gallery says: “I paint with my heart and for the soul. My paintings are not complex and depict our oneness with nature.”
Geetika captures the moods of nature in her paintings which have all bright colours. She is a self-made artists. As many as 60 paintings by the artist are on view at the gallery.
It is only during the last 7 to 8 years, she began taking serious interest in painting. What inspired her to paint is nature and its simplicity. The splendour of nature is everywhere – be it a glorious sunset or a single bloom in a pot plant or even the majestic sca that runs alongside a busy traffic congested road on Marine Drive. You can see the beauty and splendour of nature everywhere. “I choose to see it in my day to day life and inspired to transfer my observation on canvas. To me it is like splashing some beautiful colours on a blank canvas.”
For Geetika, everyday is a learning experience. Over the years, there has been a change in her style and preference of shades and shapes – but her underlying love for painting nature has remained.
The artist always had big family support. “My mother is an environmentalist and does tremendous work at grassroot level. While I create nature on canvas, she creates nature on soil. We are a good team. My father has been my biggest critic and admirer. He helps with all the logistics around holding an exhibition and also encourages me to paint all the time.”
Her next theme for an exhibition is the rose. As a flower, it has evoked thousands of emotions for hundreds of years. The rose is a very powerful icon…”
The exhibition at the Jehangir Art Gallery will go on till October 10.
