In one of the paintings of Dattatraya Thombare, there is only a question mark to indicate facial features. He drops details as he produces figurative images. He uses curves and various positions of the body and head to indicate what he wants to say. The lines in the paintings are strong and precise. The figures are always seen against supportive settings. There is always a colour contest: a bit of white against a bright patch of colour – mostly red-colour – bright colour – is that artist forte. That’s what makes the impact first. With simple forms and images and suitable colours, the artist tries to convey human feelings. The good old mother and child situation is also there. Some of the titles of his paintings indicate what he wants to convey “Inner Love”, “Journy”, “Reflections” “Childhood Memoirs”.
Dattatraya has learnt quite a lot regarding the language of art. He was in J.J. School of art as well as in Abhinava Kala Mahavidyalaya. Dattaraya is a young artist and he is all set to go into a bright future. The exhibition is at the Jehangir Art Gallery. It will be there till August 15. Contact: 9822779395.
