Sanjay N. Raut is a high-calibre painter. His works are on view at the Jehangir Art Gallery. Brahmin boys with the sacred thread, decorated bulls, monks and priests, religious symbols, glimpses of rituals can be seen in his paintings.
In some of the paintings, there is elaborate work – almost an entire scene. There is an animated images there – lively goings-on. Something is being said, expressed. They are pictures of ritual happenings.
Apart from any religious significance, the brightness, the colours make the paintings attractive. In some of the paintings, there is an effort at narration.
The appeal of the paintings is high. And we can see abundance of “lavanya” in whatever the artist does.
A high-calibre, good exhibition.
The artist says: “I am always impressed by simplicity of rural life and our rich traditions and culture. My childhood memories of early life in rural areas and impressions of “Gurukul” system present there inspires me to create paintings.”
