ASHOK ROY’s ‘Photo – Genius Art’ is on display at the Cymroza Art Gallery – till April 8. Photo-Genius Art is described as paintings’s tribute to abstract photography. The artist begins with an abstract photograph and then having got it onto canvas, he works on it with brush strokes in oil paint.
Roy’s work begins with one of his abstract photographs plucked with a keen eye for aesthetic value. Un-retouched and manipulated, this itself should have its own worth and merit as an inspired photograph of “Fine Art Photography”. Then he gets the photograph printed on the canvas. He begins to employ brush strokes in oil paint to transform the canvas into a unique painting inspired and prompted by the photograph he starts with, the final finding can move towards any genre right from realistic by figurative – to pure abstract.
