Rohit Sharma and Sangeetha Sharma – husband and wife – show their works at Cymroza Art Gallery. Rohit Sharma has tried to encompass the city of Delhi with its antiquity and cultural heritage and constant growth and landmarks – representing the ancient, and modern. Sangeetha’s work in bronze shows the journey of a woman – from a growing child to a young girl, womanhood and motherhood.
Rohit’s paintings focuses on the cow, a revered animal Rohit’s cows are in a state of question-answer dilemma and sometimes they are seen engrossed in meditation. The use of red in the background is a conscious effort to draw attention to the road rage evident in our city with its space restraints and modern happenings. He also depicts the lack of communication by a symbolic representation using a child, calf and its mother. The ‘modern cow’ which travels everyday from the outskirts of Delhi on four wheels makes an interesting satirical comment.
Sangeetha Sharma brings to her art form the sensitivity and compassion of a woman. The journeys of her own experiences are seen in her works. Sangeetha’s figures show liberation, deep connection with the spiritual world. Sangeetha’s sculptures are a celebration of womanhood.
The exhibition will continue at the Cymroza till October 30. Contact: 23671983.
