Shola Carletti is an Italian artist based in Pune where she works as painter, graphic web designer.
Gravity is the theme of Shola’s works. Shola says: We are all continuously ‘falling’. This has been part of my work and has driven the way I pour colours on the canvas, especially gold that represents the divine. At the beginning I was playing with it – giving it a direction and meaning… A major loss in my life brought me face to face with the unavoidable… This changed my whole approach and I felt I had to let colours fall – no interference from my side — just a watchful presence, an acceptance, allowing the divine to drop on to the surface in its own way… In that reality, I was not painting. I was simply a tool in the hands of existence… watching the divine fall into space the way it wanted. In a way, allowing gravity the role of dropping gold enhances colours, underlines colours and counter-point colours, pulls them together, allows them to glow more vividly making each colour richer and more precious.
The exhibition is at Art and Soul till Sept 28. Contact: 022-24965798.
