Artist Eknath Giram has tried to depict the romantic, devotional relationship between the Gopis and Krishna. The artist says: “I have been overwhelmed by the Sarvakarshak aspects of the personality of Krishna – like fame, beauty, power, wisdom, love, wealth, renunciation…” He is also ‘mesmerised’ by the devotion and romanticism in the interaction between Gopis and Krishna. “My cretive pursuits in this series, mostly signify various emotional feelings in the Gopis…”
The artist has ‘endeavoured’ to present the Sarvakarshak personality of Krishna from devotional sentimental and romantic involvement of Gopis.
Eknath’s paintings are in acrylic. As can be expected, there is a lyrical quality in the work – an attempt to invest them with ‘lavanya’. There are also paintings of Krishna with white cows and his young friends. It is a familiar theme with a little different treatment. His work is visually pleasant.
The artist’s exhibition entitled ‘Sarvakarshak’ is at the Jehangir – till 27th August. Contact: 9821302924.
